I just wish he would put out more live releases and other archival stuff. He's at his best live and yet he has put out so little live music. -jerry

1/20/12

He seems to put an album out almost every year, so we should probably hear something in next few months hopefully

1/17/12

Any rumours of a new album this year? - Jerry

1/12/12

Don't worry, I'll eventually circle back around to updating icecoldnugrape.com!

1/11/12

I'm ready for some new JR music!

1/02/12

Check out this site: http://www.gbvdb.com/home.asp It's got a similar theme to jrrecordings.com site but for the band "Guided By Voices". It's very impressive

O Moon released exactly 1 year ago!

10/28/11

It's finally here! jrrecordings.com

10/22/11

That works thanks.

10/22/11

Sorry, I had to put a space in the link because it was messing up the page alignment...just get rid of the space right before "recordings.html"

10/22/11

Yes, "Run on the Beach" seems to be a new song, but it seems like he's still playing around with it...it sounds very unfinished

10/22/11

The link below won't work for me.

10/22/11

Is Run On The Beach a new song?- jerry

10/22/11

Here's a site that has a technical breakdown of the project from my programming partner's website: http://chrisfolger.com/ recordings.html

10/14/11

The point is not for mp3's like this page...but rather to document every known recording (about 400 total) and you can see interesting things like how many times a song was played, and the first and last time the song was performed

10/14/11

6546 total performances (every song instance of his recorded output)

10/14/11

Austria, Australia, Denmark, Italy, Sweeden, Belgium, Netherlands, USA, England, Scotland, Canada, Japan, Spain, France, Germany

10/14/11

128 total cities and 15 countries!

10/14/11

So far there are about 575 unique songs that we have recordings of Jonathan performing

10/14/11

JB: The "Recording's Database" site is getting so close to being done. It provides a way to search hundreds of JR shows and setlists

10/14/11

JB: I'm gonna see the Baltimore JR show in a few days!

9/27/11

Too quiet out there!

9/06/11

I love the instrumental section of Affection about halfway through the song-jerry

9/05/11

Looking forward to it! - jerry

9/05/11

Just put together every version of "Affection" I have and am picking out the best ones... God there's some gems here

9/04/11

He'll get a big official compillation one day...but I think he's still got a lot of new things to say first

9/04/11

Meant to say all of these great JR songs have to be released.

9/04/11

Someway somehow sometime all of these great unreleased JR have to be officially released!- jerry

9/04/11

I think I'm gonna go to the Baltimore show on Oct 20 (from Raleigh, NC)

9/04/11

Even if it is we still have several recordings of it that can be enjoyed!

9/04/11

I hope that Bohemia isn't one of those great JR songs that fails to show up on an album!-jerry

9/04/11

Affection?

9/04/11

I'm thinking of putting together a post to highlight a song on the jojoblog similar to how rb did that to "Our Time is Now". Any suggestions for songs? If you send me your thoughts either through this post or my email I'll try to include them: jonathandavidbrink@gmail.com

9/04/11

Both versions of Bohemia I just mentioned are linked to the left... One you can get past the poor sound quality of the Asheville version I think it's one of the finest live performances on here

9/04/11

Also, in Asheville, NC, the first time I saw him play "Bohemia" when the song was still being developed, he surprized everyone with an 11 minute long exploration of the topic. Probably the biggest surprise I've had at one of his shows.

9/04/11

My favorite moment ever at a JR concert was in Nashville where he started playing "Bohemia". Even though it was a new song by the end of it everyone was enthusiastically singing the chorous in a call-and-response way. Pure magic

9/04/11

To be honest...I think the DVD "Take Me to the Plaza" kind of loses the magic of experiencing the show in person. I like the DVD, but there's nothing like being there 3 feet away from a dancing troubadour!

9/04/11

Well, no-one else releases live albums anymore either, DVDs have taken over.

8/29/11

Why aren't there any current live JR albums? Except for the Plaza dvd all of his live albums are many years old.- jerry

8/29/11

I love "No Te Oye"! I used to listen to that spanish album all the time in high school. Very fond memories

8/29/11

Soon there will be an entirely new way to comment on albums, shows, etc...Been working on it for many months now... - JB (icecoldnugrape creator)

8/29/11

We need a way to delete messages in case we mess up the spelling on them etc!!!!

8/29/11

I never listen to Te Vas Emocionar. I give it a listen tonight. Not carzy about JR Spanish songs.- jerry

8/28/11

Am I the only one whose favorite album is "Jonathan Te Vas A Emocionar"?

8/19/11

I bet most JR fans don't know that Rockin' and Romance is available on cd at Twintone Records.

8/19/11

And the lyrics to the song "Surrender" are timeless. "To Summon Gabrel and Michelangelo. To compete with Juliete or Romeo. You're armor so strong, is strategically wrong, victory goes this time to the tender, to win in love you must surrender"

8/19/11

I agree about "Surrender to Jonathan". It's funny, because the first few songs are INCREDIBLE, then the middle part of the album is re-hashes, and then the album closes very strong. "Just Look At Me" could be his best album-opener

8/18/11

I love them all but I'd have to say that I don't listen to Jonathan Surrenders as much as the others - jerry

8/18/11

I love them all but I'd have to say that I don't listen to Jonathan Surrenders as much as the others - jerry

8/18/11

Least listened: "The Modern Lovers", Most Listened: "Jonathan Sings". Least Liked: spanish album, Most liked: tie between half of 'em!

8/18/11

I can honestly say that there is no JR album that I dont love. Sure there are songs that I dont care for (some of the re-makes, Cellphone song), but every album has enough high points to make me obsessed with it.

8/18/11

What is your least favorite/least listened to JR album? - jerry

8/18/11

Although some of the songs don't quite stand out as much as his work on other albums to me, they flow together beautifully as a whole, and give this album a very even feel. Julia Sweeney's voice is just gorgeous on the Irish song, and City Vs. Country has some of his most poetic and passionate lyrics ever

8/18/11

"You Must Ask the Heart" was the first in the line of albums that took another leap towards a more mature sound after "I, Jonathan" and the spanish album. But JR can be more mature and still have fun at the same time.

8/16/11

I love the brief guitar solo on Couples Must Fight - jerry

8/16/11

What are your thoughts on the You Must Ask The Heart album? - jerry

8/15/11

I'm So Confused is such a great album! At first it threw me off because of the different production, but it has completely grown on me! "The Night is Still Young"!

8/15/11

Just listened to the I'm So Confused cd. One of my favorites!

7/27/11

My favourite is probably "My heart was won by a girl from Forest Dale"

Slow days in the JR world.

6/16/11

Kind of quiet around here lately!

6/05/11

The first time I heard JR was in 1976 the song Hospital-jerry

5/27/11

That Summer Feeling is sort of a sad feeling...a longing nostalgia for a time that you didn't know was so special in the moment. It was the song that got me hooked when I was just a little kid lookin' out my Dad's car window...

5/27/11

Memorial Day-The time is here for one more year And that summer feeling is gonna haunt you One day in your life.- jerry

5/18/11

5/18/11

Mystery of the Summer Night-never heard that before thanks-jerry

5/18/11

I hope he decides to put Bohemia on his next album-jerry

5/18/11

When I was in Nashville I talked with JR about the song Bohemia and he seemed extremely pleased to talk about it, and I think it means a lot to him to have the crowd sing along with it. I'm so happy that it seems to be part of his regular set now

5/17/11

Happy b-day jojo!!!

5/16/11

60 years young & still has that 5 year old feeling! Hip, Hip Hooray for The Best!

5/15/11

5/02/11

The "Jonathan Richman Recordings" project will have individual pages for all shows/albums/etc where comments can be posted and each page can be individually linked. A few more months away but it's making steady progress every day

4/29/11

Wow. Still young at heart though

4/28/11

May 16 Jonathan's Birthday-60 Years Old!-jerry

4/12/11

New Photo page looks great! - jerry

4/07/11

The project to chronical every known JR recording is making a ton of progress...we now have most of the data in a database! Now we need to figure out the best way to display it and we have have a bunch of other features in the works... - nugrape

4/07/11

The guitar tabs on the chords page might not be perfect, but they have helped me countless times over the years figure out songs that I was stuck on. It's also great for the notes on the bottom of the pages and the buying guide. - nugrape

4/05/11

The chords page is great for lyrics, shame the chords are all wrong.

4/03/11

I added a link to Ramon's great "Unofficial Jonathan Richman Chords Page" in the external links section. His site has come alive once again and is a great place to focus on JR's individual songs among other things. Check it out!

From the song "Something You Love": Have you got something you love? Something your friends soon find you won't back down on? They find that you won't be shoved...you smile more proud the more they frown on something you love, something you believe in inside

Also, if anyone has any photoshop/graphical skills and want to contribute artistically email me

3/21/11

Does anyone have any personal photos of Jonathan that I could use for a huge additon to the site? I'm looking for photos that have never been seen before (unique) and do not have a lot of background noise. Any phase of his career is welcome.

3/13/11

The Showman's version of "It Will Stand" is great (but I prefer JR's version!)

3/13/11

Thanks for the link!

Also, any Aussies who run into JR overseas, please tell him we miss him!

Bohemia sounds just like The Velevt Underground!-Jerry

3/02/11

I cant stop listening to Bohemia. There is so much emotion in that song

2/27/11

I love these new songs. I hope they eventually appear on an album.- Jerry

2/27/11

Before the song started Jonathan whispered something to Tommy which added to the surprise

2/27/11

The Asheville Bohemia version has very low sound quality but I think it was my favorite song version to ever hear at a JR show

2/27/11

Nice reviews.I wish I was there!-Jerry

He's played in australia a few times but I don't think he's been there for a while. I think he played with John Cale down there at least once

Has Jonathan ever been to Australia? He needs to come, he seems to have a big following here!

11/20/10

Has Jonathan ever done any holiday songs?

11/19/10

My favorite is "For Drama We Have the Seasons"

11/19/10

Crazy Eddie-My favorite mp3 here!

11/19/10

(I meant impressive.)

11/19/10

Mighty impressing collection of mp3s here!

11/18/10

The two versions of "The sea was calling me home..." are kindof hard to listen too, but it sounds like something that JR needs to just let pour out of himself. Sounds like he's really healing through his music

11/18/10

O Moon is a slight step in a new direction. When I view it from a fresh mindset, and not in the same vein as his previous couple albums it helps me appreciate it so much. I think I 'm enjoying this new album more than anything he's done this past decade - but I love those albums too!

11/17/10

First time I saw Jonathan he shook hands with everyone in club as we left. And it was a full house.

11/17/10

I'm having a real hard time getting into O Moon. So far it's far from my favorite JR album.

11/16/10

The Bitter Earth is breathtaking

11/16/10

The packaging of O Moon looks extremely earth-friendly

11/16/10

We'll be the scandal in the street...

11/16/10

O Moon is quickly starting to grow on me. It stands among his best work

11/08/10

Review of O Moon from Allmusic-"It's a quietly brilliant work from a singular songwriter."

11/05/10

Listening to the new album right now!

11/04/10

Here in Jersey the new album is on sale as of today Nov. 4th!

10/30/10

Jonathan Richman will be on the Jimmy Fallon show on Nov 1

November isn't that far off. Usually we hear of a new JR album months in advance. So now we have less waiting! Jerry

9/30/10

On my "New Songs - 2010" I have the song "Bitter Herb" labled wrong. Thanks to Nathan for pointing out the beauty of this song

9/30/10

YES. Is it November yet?

icecoldnugrape, do you have a copy of "She's Taking the Pill For Me"? I am dying to hear this one or at leastknow the lyrics

7/16/10

Well, if he'll play in Brazil, he'll probably swing by OZ soon enough!

7/15/10

Hey JB! Very impressed with your site. Still desperate to get Jonathan down to OZ for a show or 2 (a dozen would be better!) Wayne.

7/06/10

An interview with Ellie would be so awesome!!!

7/06/10

Thank you for the nice comment about the interview, I hope to get Ellie for the next one. Jacques

7/06/10

The Modern Lovers were one of the bands which played when Phil Kauffman spread Gram Parsons ashes at Joshua tree. The same Phil Kauffman spent time in jail with Manson and eventually released some of his records..

7/06/10

Jonathan told me he swa the Velvet Underground live about 150 times.

6/30/10

Supposodly there is a bootleg of JR in the woods singing songs. Does anyone have any information about this?

6/29/10

Back around 1976 I had tickets to see JR & the ML in Pennsylvania but the night of the show it was cancelled. That was 35 years ago and I never got the chance to see him again.

6/21/10

The first JR song I ever heard was Hospital on FM radio around 1976.

6/19/10

Jonathan was one of the last people to see Graham Parsons alive

6/19/10

When I Jonathan was released in 1992 in the back of the cd booklet was an address to get in touch with JR. I wrote to JR and several weeks later he sent me a postcard !!!!!

5/14/10

There were thoughts about JR hosting a children's show in the early 80's and "That Summer Feeling" was to be a potential theme song

5/13/10

At a show in the 90's, some older kids asked if they could get in a show without a ticket, and Jonathan - knowing that people try this scheme all the time - decided to sing a song for them on the spot instead. So he sang them some song, and then went on to perform. Before he could play any songs though, he told the audience that he had a confession to make. He should have let those kids in! And if anyone knew where the kids were to let them in! I heard this from a live recording, told by JR. It was pretty entertaining

5/13/10

One time I asked him what he thought about "Jonathan Sings", and he said that he loved the songs, but didn't like the way they came out on the record.
